To have a supportive family and a partner makes things so much easier for many women in a world which tests them every day. Earlier, several women online spoke about their supportive husbands. ‘Anupama’ actor Rupali Ganguly too shared how her husband is single-handedly taking care of the household and their kids while she works long hours.
Adding to the conversation, Rupali Ganguly spoke about having supportive men in her life – not just her husband but also her father. In a conversation with ETimes, she expressed how women in our culture are asked to place themselves after every one else and it requires a lot of work to break that conditioning.

“We all have grown up with that conditioning. It is part of our culture that you don’t ask for yourself, ask for others. But I’ve been blessed with such a fabulous man in my life that for me every day is women’s day.”
She went on to reveal how her father was tremendously supportive of her while she was growing up. He let her do her thing, and the same is with her husband, Ashwin.
“When I finish my shoot and go back home, I’ve my husband at home who treats me like a queen. With a husband like that, I am able to do this job. While I was growing up, my father also never held me back. He told me to keep my dignity and do whatever I want to. He never stopped me from doing anything. He always encouraged me and the same thing is with my husband.”
On the other hand, Rupali’s mother had the mentality of putting herself after everyone else. And hence, Rupali, for the longest time, had the same mentality too. To break that thought process, she had to realise her self worth.
“I relate to that conditioning because my mother has been like that she has always been doing for others. She never thought of herself. In a way, we are also raised like that with that conditioning that you should always keep others first. But I always believe that when you are travelling in a plane you are told to first wear your own oxygen mask first in case of emergency before helping others so life is like that.”

Self love is very important, especially for women who live in a world that has set unrealistic expectations when it comes to how she looks, how well she handles the family, and what not.
“Self love is very important. Usually, women are not able to accept their own self and they are not able to love themselves. Ohh yaar kash mere tummy thodi kum hoti, my skin is sagging should I do something with my face. It’s not like only other women do that I also sometimes think that way. This constant thinking we are not being up to the mark or are less as compared to others, criticising ourselves all the time, putting ourselves down is not right. Thinking about others is a very good quality but you have to think about yourself first. When you start loving yourself, you will start loving others also is what I feel.”
Do you agree with what Rupali has to say?
