RANGREZZ narrates the story of three friends who attempt to unite another friend with his lady-love. A simplistic plot, humble setting and straight-forward storytelling… RANGREZZ arrives without the usual frills and trappings of a masala movie. The story is not path-breaking, but what works -- in the first hour at least -- is the realistic milieu and the age-old philosophy that enduring friendship can overcome all odds, with friends standing by each other through thick and thin. However, the writing in the post-interval portions is just not convincing. On the whole, RANGREZZ has an impressive first half, but loses focus in the post-interval portions. One definitely expected more!

The theme of 'Rangrezz', is more like 'dosts till death do us part', with of course, a melange of other issues (love, sex, marriage, mazhab) doing a walk-in, walk-out part through the film. 'Rangrezz', Priyadarshan's remake of a Tamil film, has a story without a convincing purpose, point or plan. There are ample well-shot scenes ( Santosh Sivan), good performances (strong supporting cast) and sweet moments; though the film shows little bit of everything and doesn't leave you with much. There's too much of goodness, topped with diatribes and dialoguebaazi on dil, dosti love, lust, and shaadi. The second half goes awry, the story loses steam and characters lose colour.The boy buddies put in their best, but Rangrezz is too much chaos without much colour.

Rangrezz is an over-wrought melodrama, which has stray moments of power but is ultimately is too convoluted to be convincing. Rangrezz is a remake of a Tamil film Naadodigal and the best thing about it is an unexpected twist in plot. Director Priyadarshan attempts to create a gritty ode to friendship, which in this film, is stronger than family ties and love. Rangrezz isn’t bad but it isn’t sparkling either. I’m going with a generous two and a half stars.

On a broader level, the film about love is devoid of romance, has very little comedy and does not touch the viewer on an emotional level. Therefore, although some individual sequences do hold the viewers’ attention, the drama loses its impact in totality. The second half does not have the excitement of the pre-interval portion. On the whole, Rangrezz is a film about the youth but its scripting and making will not appeal much to the youngsters. Given the dull initial it has taken, it faces an uphill task at the ticket counters.

Rangrezz (remake of Tamil hit Naadodigal) is a powerful film about three seemingly aimless youngsters living in the chawls of Mumbai [ Images ], who are blinded by the idea of friendship, and see nothing wrong in risking their lives in the name of friendship. Rangrezz is a powerful social drama that brims with the urgency of the young and the audacious. Its ideology may be deeply flawed but perhaps that’s the point the film is trying to make: being clueless; and often misguided while being young is probably the right way towards self-discovery.

While the motive might be sincere, the execution lacks the same sentiment. There are too many parallel plots, unnecessary diversions, songs that pop up like burnt toasts, and dialogues that read out of a rejected TV soaps pilot episode. Priyadarshan loses track mid way and instead of exploring new ground often falls back on his tried and tested formula which seems outdated. Had the screenplay focused on the dynamics and interpersonal play between the friends and lead to a climax that wasn’t bulldozed by heavy dramatics and lengthy dialogues, Rangrezz might have had a different verdict.

Priyadarshan has been growing so steadily unwatchable these days that you fear the worst when you step into Rangrezz, a remake of the Tamil hit Naadodigal. As the film unspools, each of those fears come true: this is rock-bottom. It's all down to the treatment, which is relentlessly loud and blaring. And some of the lines are so crass (that they've been blipped out makes no difference) they make you wonder : is this the same director who's given us Viraasat, and Gardish? The good news? Priyadarshan can only go up from here.

What’s Good: The film’s honesty is its sole USP. Period! What’s Bad: Lack of able screen presence of its actors. Despite a decently impressive script, the execution is done rather sloppily. Loo break: For sure! Watch or Not?: Rangrezz’s sincerity is killed by the mere lack of good actors in the film. I still recommend this film for its eye opening take on love. Rangrezz does its best to enthuse a fresh perspective on the clichéd tale of love, which is commendable. However, the movie fails for its lusterless screenplay and dull stars that leave the audiences famished despite an intriguing plot.

whilst watching Priyadarshan’s ‘Rangrezz’ because, despite the sincerity shown by its makers, the belief system of the audience takes a steady beating when watching the plot unspool on screen. Maybe in Bollywood friendships are made of sterner stuff, but destroying your life for virtual strangers is not a concept that I would bank my money on. However, considering ‘Rangrezz’s formula has already worked in its Tamil avatar ‘Naadodigal’, maybe the filmmakers know something more about its target audience than the critics. In the end, ‘Rangrezz’ is an eye opener for today’s youth, but lack of star power or screen presence may fail to get that message across to the masses.
