It is no coincidence that this film is surprisingly moving 1976 drama inspired by Frank Pierson "A Star Is Born". And I deliberately mention the 1976 version and not the funky psychedelic (1954) earlier version of the same story.
In spirit and in the way the two main actors perform their parts of two soul mates and singers torn by their loyalty to the competitive spirit of showmanship, "Aashiqui 2" is strongly reminiscent of the Barbra Streisand-Kristofferson Kris film where discovers a co-singer who steals his heart and his career.
Hrishikesh Mukherjee made his melodious "Abhimaan" on the same subject. It was easy for Hrishida to portray Jaya Bhaduri and Amitabh Bachchan best artist simply because she sang in the voice of Lata Mangeshkar. In "Aashiqui 2", the two protagonists are virtually left to their own resources to create such unbearable chill between two people whose love is trapped in the showbiz carousel. In love to be freed from the ritual of competitiveness, one of the lovers must make a great sacrifice before the end.
Love, to live the lover must die. It's a curious balance and one led in this film with an exuberance of emotions.
The premise for the plot assumes all love to be selfless and unconditional giving. Just to see the eyes of Shradha Kapoor mutation merge into the emotions of unflinching devotion to her alcoholic lover star-on-the-skids is a vision that makes us believe true love still exists. This little beauty with eyes that never remain silent gives much heart meanwhile, just wants to hold her and protect her from her self-destructive mentor-turned-executioner.
Aditya Roy Kapoor as a rock star quickly slipping lists gives all of himself to the character. And then some more. In the person of Aditya, Rahul becomes a metaphor for all the success in the entertainment world goes wrong. In the pursuit of pleasure derived from the bottle of your character becomes a cross between Devdas Shah Rukh Khan, Ranbir Kapoor Rockstar Kirstofferson Kris and John Norman Howard.
Like all movie heroes Mahesh Bhatt, Aditya has to portray a man who often creates a scene and embarrases the person he loves most. This young actor is not afraid to look committed to the screen. An actor of fear, Aditya teetering on the higher notes.
But as I said, the singing here is not quite what we heard Mamgeshkar Lata, Mohammad Rafi and Kishore Kumar made in "Abhimaan". Having said this, we must recognize that the music of Jeet Ganguly, Mithoon and Ankit Tiwari highlighted by the characters and lets them down even when the pitch gets very steep. Finely written poetry also helps provide the travel lovers to fever pitch and fruitful.
"Aashiqui 2" is a movie with the heart in the right place. There are many moments of pure cliché between lovers. And right now, so deeply rooted in the conventions of our cinema flourish in fresh statements about modern love. It is gratifying Rafiqui Shagufta writer and director Mohit Suri discover those feel good places in the script where the protagonists plonk their emotions with confidence and conviction to reach the audience.

If cinema is all about fake human emotions, I must admit that this movie does a very competent job of making us believe that true love still exists in this world.
Man, woman, music, ambitions, dreams and despair ... Director Mohit Suri anxiety crosses the territory soaked with sincere and profound understanding of the dynamics that destroy love and trust between partners in the glamorous and competitive profession. Yes, there are some awkwardly-written episodes in the history of love, for example, the character of intrusive fighter who breaks into the plot at the beginning during the opening concert and again at the climax almost as if waiting impatiently in the margins of the script.
What elevates the film beyond the realm of the routine are jagged edges that the film built around core relationship without hurting the fragile core of the film. All credit to the actors that fill the screen with a measure of voluptuousness allowing emotions to spill over without creating an excessive drama. Aditya Roy Kapoor is impressive implosive while Shradha Kapoor plays out against him with a steely vulnerability echoes Jaya Bhaduri in "Abhimaan". Another good performance comes from Shaad Randhawa and Aditya friend and manager.
View this drama-greased smooth decay could not help but remember love Rahul Roy and Anu wooden performance Aggarwal in "Aashiqui".
Our cinema has come a long way, and not always in the right direction. "Aashiqui 2" makes us grateful for the movement of the love story away from the standard format of Romeo and Juliet in the dark and destructive domain of "A Star Is Born".
