High Court rejects stay on Zanjeer 2.0 release

Salim Khan and Javed Akhtar, who wrote the script of original Zanjeer, moved to the High Court claiming that they hold the copyright over the script, dialogues and the story of Amitabh Bachchan starrer and also demanded compensation. Since writer duo Salim-Javed had the rights of the script, they claimed it could be used only once which Prakash Mehra did while making the original Zanjeer. Hence to remake the film, it would require their consent which is why they asked the court to put a stay on the film’s release.

In fact, Puneet and Sumeet Mehra, sons of late Prakash Mehra, who are producing the remake, agreed to pay Rs 6 crore as compensation if the court ruled in Salim-Javed’s favour. This was observed by the court while rejecting the stay on the release of Priyanka Chopra and Ram Charan Teja starrer Zanjeer 2.0 which will hit the screens on September 6.
While Bombay High Court has rejected their plea, Salim-Javed are now planning to appeal to the apex court. Looks like these two veteran from film fraternity aren’t going to give up so easily.
