Satish Kaushik can breathe a sigh of relief. The money that his domestic help had stolen has been retrieved. Confirming this Satish says, "He was caught and the money was recovered. Now I've to get it money from the court."
Satish Kaushik's domestic help had decamped with a huge Rs 1 crore, thereby raising the question of celebrity safety in Mumbai when it comes to hiring domestic staff, once again surfaces.
There is a disturbing pattern in Mumbai of migrants fleeing with their employees' property and/money often after causing grievous bodily harm to members of the household.
Satish Kaushik can only thank his stars that the fugitive domestic help didn't harm his family.
"Anything could've happened to my wife and little daughter. The servant who was from Jharkhand had completely won us over. My daughter played with him and my wife trusted his presence in the household. Anything could've happened since I was not at home at the time of the incident. I made the mistake of not verifying his credentials before employing him. My driver got me the domestic help, assured me he was reliable. I now realize we should never employ anyone without a complete identity verification," says the discernibly disturbed actor-filmmaker.
When asked why he kept such a huge amount cash in his house Satish offers, "It was 3-day weekend. And I needed to hand over that cash on Monday morning as part of a business deal for a film. How was I to know that someone we trusted in the household would pull off such a daring and shameless act right under my wife's nose?"
There was no doubt about the culprit's identity as the CCTV footage in Satish's building captured the offender red-handed.
The cops had assured Satish that the offender who was from Jharkhand would be nabbed at the earliest.
"He couldn't leave Mumbai and go back to his home-town Bokaro since the departure points were under constant surveillance," says Satish." I am grateful. Jaan bachi toh laakhon paaye. Thank God my family wasn't harmed."
However a close friend of Satish calls Satish irresponsible for leaving so much cash in the house. "No one in their right mind would leave a crore in the house with the wife and child at the staff's mercy. Satish is like that. Trusting and naive. Bahot baar paise ke maamle mein dhokha kha chuka hai. This incident should serve as a lesson to him and all those who hire help blindly."
