Mohit Suri’s much-awaited film Ek Villain starring Sidharth Malhotra, Shradhha Kapoor and Riteish Deshmukh has finally hit the screens today. And this film seems to have lived up to all the expectations. We say coz Ekta Kapoor’s latest production venture has witnessed a phenomenal opening till now. So we are pretty sure the film will rock the box office over the weekend. Exhibitor-distributor Akshaye Rathi posted on Twitter, “From the top end multiplexes in the metros to the stalls at single screens in tier 3 towns – #EkVillain has numbers across the spectrum!” We also asked Akshaye how much moolah the film is expected to rake in by the end of the day and he replied, “12 crore plus… can go beyond if the evening shows grow even better.” Now that’s a mighty start, hai na?
Film critic and trade analyst Taran Adarsh tweeted, “Ekta Kapoor and her team at Balaji deserve brownie points for marketing and ensuring a FANTABULOUS start for #EkVillain.” He further added, ” #EkVillain opening day figures [STUPENDOUS] will come as a shocker for many. This film takes Mohit Suri in an altogether different league.”
According to Boxofficeindia, “Ek Villian had a very good opening of around 55-60 percent. The film opened very all over though East Punjab due to Punjab 1984 and Delhi city were slower than other areas. Ek Villian even managed to open well in Kolkata which is a hard market to crack unless you are Shah Rukh Khan. It could be due to the fact that the directors last film Aashiqui 2had huge appreciation with a fantastic extended run in West Bengal.”
If Ek Villain continues to rock the box office at this pace then it won’t be long before it enters the coveted Rs 100 crore club, right peeps.
