"We are starting in October," says director Ram Madhvani, who has got the very selective Kajol to agree to be in his feature film.
Apparently, Kajol, who has been saying no to practically everything on offer immediately said yes to Madhvani's project.
"We know each other for years. We've worked together in several ads. I've somehow convinced myself into believing ad-making is high-art. Anyway, somewhere Kajol and I developed a mutual trust and respect while working on the ads. When I went to her with this subject she agreed to do it," says Madhvani.
At the moment, he is not allowed to reveal any more information except that the film will be produced by Kajol's husband Ajay Devgn , though he won't be playing any role in the film.
Says Madhvani, "To direct Kajol in a feature film is an incredible challenge. She has excelled in every conceivable part. I've to make sure she goes beyond what she has already done. I've not directed a full-length film for a very long time. I couldn't have hoped for a better return to full-length direction."
The schedule beginning in October would be worked around Kajol's domestic duties.
"Of course, the mother comes first, always. We will be shooting the film around Kajol's other far more important commitments as a wife and mother, no doubt about," says Madhvani resolutely.
Further probing reveals that the project is an out-and-out heroine-oriented subject about a housewife's quest for self-identity. But the film and its treatment would be nothing like the celebrated selfhood sagas of Shabana Azmi and Smita Patil.
"Though it would be a film with a very relevant theme, it would be done in the spirit of fun," says a source.
This would be Kajol's first film since the ill-fated We Are Family in 2010.
