Ajay Devgn and Kareena Kapoor Khan starrer Singham Returns is all set to release this independence day. The Rohit Shetty film is a sequel to the 2011 superhit Singham and there are huge expectations from this one as well. The music album maybe short but seems well balanced with Arijit Singh, Yo Yo Honey Singh and others in it. Find out how far the music impressed us. Here’s a song by song review…
Sun le zara: Sung by Arijit Singh, this song is a surprise package in the film. The song is a high pitched romantic track which rides more on the vocals and the lyrics, whereas the film is a high flying cop drama. The song takes you back to Muskurane from CityLights as both the songs have a very similar feel. Also the two have been composed by Jeet Ganguli and sung by Arijit. The song starts on a low note but it picks up excellently in the guitar portions. With its semi-rock genre, the song sure will find its way to the audience.
Singham theme: Sung by Mika Singh, this song is a different take on the same Singham theme composed by Ajay-Atul for the first installment of the film. The song became extremely popular and Meet Bros. Anjjan have rejigged the track with some different beats and made it sound different. This one’s a fast paced track but the original track had better thumping power and more energetic beats, which was very apt to describe the character of Bajirao Singham. That is a bit of a let down. There is another MBA swag remix version to the song, which is full of Punjabi beats. That too, unfortunately, is not able to create the same magic as the original song.
Kuch toh hua hai: Sung by Ankit Tiwari and Tulsi Kumar, this song is another romantic number but with less merit. The song is very ordinary but not unpleasant. Also there is an uncanny resemblance to the song Khuda jaane from Bachna Ae Haseeno, and you tend to drift back to that. The music arrangement is pretty ordinary and thus this Ankit Tiwari composition has nothing very different to offer.
Aata majhi satakli: Sung by Yo Yo Honey Singh and Mamta Sharma, this song is no different from any Honey Singh song. It is likeable throughout. The lyrics are very hip and fit perfectly with the rapping. The song has an underlying feeling of Party with the bhootnath song from Bhootnath Returns. It is the usage of the signature dialogue of Bajirao Singham, Aata Maajhi Satakli, in the lyrics which make the song worth listening. The dialogue had become a rage after the first installment of the film released. The tempo of the song is brilliant and makes perfect use of Mamta Sharma’s vocals as well. The kid saying the line Mala Raag Yatoy is definitely the highlight of the song.
Verdict: The album is overall well blended. While expectations were not very high, the album definitely betters them and comes out with flying colours. Being a cop drama with full on action, it is good that there are lesser songs in the film. Rohit Shetty has done a brilliant job by hiring different music composers for all the songs so that no two songs have a similar feel to it.
