Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s next production ‘Gangubai Kathiawadi’ is set to release this weekend. But even before its release, there has been a lot of controversy surrounding the film. While on one hand, the film was shown at the Berlin Film Festival, on the other hand, Gangubai’s family and the residents of Kamathipura have been protesting to stop the release of the film.
According to India TV News, the locals have alleged that Kamathipura has been shown in a bad light in the film and the youngsters of the locality will have to suffer when they interview for jobs in the future.
Stating that the history of Kamathipura is 250 years old and several doctors and engineers have come out from the locality, some demanded a ban on the film as it apparently signalled that the women of Kamathipura are prostitutes.

ABP did an interview with a couple of Kamathipura residents who demanded a ban on the film. In the video, some said that their families have been living in the area for generations, that it is a respectable locality whose reputation is now at stake as the film is about to release.
“Kamathipura is 250 years old, many engineers, pilots, doctors lived there, but they are defamed because of films. People are not getting jobs even after they appear for the interviews,” a resident said.

The residents also carried posters that had a red cross over Alia and Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s faces.
