Asha Parekh Graces Magazine Cover At 79, Talks About Not Getting Married & Her Success

It wouldn’t be wrong to say that Padma Shri awardee actor Asha Parekh ruled the movie industry back in the day. The actor who is credited for her commendable performances in films like ‘Dil Deke Dekho’, ‘Love in Tokyo’, ‘Kati Patang’ among others was the highest-paid actress of her time.

And despite being one of the most successful actresses of the 1960s and 1970s, Parekh didn’t get married.

However, the 79-year-old actress said that she would have loved to get married but has no regrets for not tying the knot, the actor told Harper’s Bazaar India.

“I guess I was not destined to get married. Honestly, I would have loved to get married and have children, but it wasn’t meant to be. However, I have absolutely no regrets,” News18 quoted her saying.

She added that her reputation of being unapproachable made people hesitate in asking for her hand in marriage.

Speaking of her innate beauty, the ‘Aaye Din Bahar Ke’ actor said, “I have always believed and continue to believe that beauty resides within the person. If you are happy, you’ll shine and if you are unhappy, it will show on your face.”

Parekh has never cut ties with her reel and real friends and is often seen turning to them for advice.

“There are quite a few people I turn to for advice, actually. I often talk to Dr. Dastur, a very close friend of mine. Then [actor] Waheeda Rehman Ji whom I admire a lot.”

“I listen to her if she says something isn’t right. But I am open to taking advice from anyone if it’s good advice, why not?”

Revealing her secret to a happy life, the veteran actor said that happiness has a lot to do with your attitude towards life.

“We must accept the lows along with the highs…only then can we live happily. The most important life lesson I’ve learned is to be patient. One has to have faith that you will succeed in life. And hard work is another important ingredient in the recipe to success.”

She achieved another feat by gracing the cover of the magazine at 79 and breaking ageing stereotypes like a boss. People online were head over heels in love with her look.
