Chashme Baddoor seems to have turned out to be the surprise hit of the year so far. After a spate of unsuccessful films at the Bollywood box-office this year, David Dhawan’s Chashme Baddoor set the box-office rolling. While the reports for the film are mixed, the film is doing well in circuits like Mysore, CP, CI and Gujarat. While the industry expected the collections of Chashme Baddoor to drop on Monday, the film was rock steady at the box office. It collected Rs. 3.5 cr net at the domestic box-office. Trade experts believe that the first week collection of Chashme Baddoor will be in the range of 30 crores which is phenomenal considering the low budget of the film:
Cost of production: Rs. 17 crores
Print and promotion: Rs. 4 – 5 crores
So on a total investment of 22 – 23 crores, the makers have already recovered 15 crores (distributor share) only from the first week collections. Add to that the money that they will get from satellite rights, music rights and other ancillary rights. Also, the film is doing very well in overseas circuit especially Pakistan.
The break up for the first five days of Chashme Baddoor is as follows:
Friday: Rs. 5.2 crores
Saturday: Rs. 6.1 crores
Sunday: Rs. 8.5 crores
Monday: Rs. 3.5 crores
Tuesday: Rs. 3 crores
The total first five day collections have been 26.5 crores approx which is great. Hope the film sustains in the second week too in spite of the opposition trhat it will face from new releases Commando and Nautanki Saala.
