Lights, camera, AD!
In 1988, while doing my masters in clinical psychology, was working as an assistant director for a television program. At that time, I was interested in becoming a director someday.
However, when I took a break for my doctorate, Circus TV series came my way and I could not say no to him. One thing led to another and my passion for the management took a back seat. During Hum Aapke Hain Koun, told Soorajji (Barjatya) I love to go to FTII and take some classes at the address, but I was advised to learn on the job.
A long hiatus?
Not at all, actually. Yes, I took a semi-retirement because he wanted to be near my children - Shouryaman (10) and Satyendra (8). In an ideal world, would be having 10 hands and 48 hours a day to keep up with them! Joking aside, turned up her first word or steps while they were growing. So it was a personal decision to reduce the work.
Directorial Decision
It was only after marriage, I sat down to write the kind of stories I want to share. I finally took my Marathi film Rita, which marked the directorial debut.
When I was working on it, there were people who were warning producers to touch my script. They feared it would result in economic losses, but did not. When we made the film at the Munich Film Festival, even the public did not like.
Bye, bye TV
I hosted some Marathi reality shows, but that's all. Compared to my early days, there has been a radical change in television now. I do not really fit in anywhere, but I'm happy with how things are. I'm an actress and that part of me will never die. You just need a good character to wake up and I'll be back in front of the camera. Meanwhile, I'd love to follow direction.
Influences film
Shaji Karun, Girish Kasaravalli and Aparna Sen are my favorites. But my passion for film comes from those that attracted me to the movies with his classics: Ritwik Ghatak, Guru Dutt, Raj Kapoor, Orson Welles and Stanley Kubrick.
