She will be given the Meera Gandhi Giving Back Award. Also, Peter Bogdanovich, American writer-filmmaker, actor, film historian and critic, will be honoured with a Lifetime Achievement Award
Peter Bogdanovich and Mira Nair have been tapped to receive awards at this year’s Woodstock Film Festival, with the 14th annual fest in upstate New York announcing its complete 2013 slate and adding a keynote address to be given this year by Slava Rubin, the co-founder of crowdfunding site IndieGogo.
Bogdanovich will take home the festival’s annual Maverick Lifetime Achievement Award for his string of film credits that includes The Last Picture Show, Paper Moon and What’s Up Doc, among other pics.
Nair (The Reluctant Fundamentalist, Monsoon Wedding), meanwhile, will score the Meera Gandhi Giving Back Award, handed out each year to a filmmaker with a strong commitment to philanthropy and social justice.
This year’s WFF launches with Dick Fontaine’s jazz doc Sonny Rollins Beyond the Notes, in a screening that also includes a live perf from the JD Allen Trio, and will continue with spotlight screenings of At Middleton, Adam Rodgers’ parental-romance tale starring Andy Garcia and Vera Farmiga; Will Slocombe’s Thanksgiving tale Cold Turkey, in which Bogdanovich appears; and Keanu Reeves’ martial arts actioner Man of Tai Chi.
Alan and Gabe Polsky’s The Motel Life, starring Stephen Dorff and Emile Hersch, gets WFF’s centrepiece screening. Also on the festival lineup of some 150 films and events are titles including world preems (premiere) of Thierry Obadia’s DNA, Peter Kline and Pete Shanel’s Here Comes the Night, Sameh Zoabi’s Under the Same Sun, Aram Garriga’s American Jesus and Dana Ben-Ari’s Breastmilk, the latter doc to be presented by Ricki Lake.
