The life of people identifying as a part of the LGBTQ+ community isn’t easy in India. While same-sex relationships have got a green signal by Indian law, same-sex marriages are still recognized as illegal.
However, several same-sex couples have put a ring on their relationship and got into matrimony in their unique way. And in a bid to help the LGBTQ+ community find their perfect match, matchmaking company Shaadi.com might soon open up their services for them, reported News18.
During a chat with Business Insider, the company’s founder and chief executive Anupam Mittal hinted that they’re looking at entering the matchmaking arena for the LGBTQ+ community and people living abroad.
“We see ourselves as a platform for companionship and matchmaking…That could mean for different markets, different regions, different countries, different sexes. We don’t have a problem with that. But we will significantly expand the kind of things that we do from a matchmaking context,” Mittal said.
As soon as this news made headlines, people shared their two cents on the matter. Some lauded the move.
Let’s respect people’s choices. Whether it’s flashing torsos on random apps, or getting married in the good old way.
