After Priyanka Chopra announced the arrival of a newborn into her and husband Nick Jonas’ life via surrogacy, there has been a lot of debate online regarding the incident. While there were some who shamed her for not choosing pregnancy or adoption to have a kid, others defended her decision.

As #Surrogacy trended on Twitter, author and activist Taslima Nasreen shared her take on surrogacy which started a huge controversy online.
“How do those mothers feel when they get their readymade babies through surrogacy? Do they have the same feelings for the babies like the mothers who give birth to the babies?” she tweeted.

She further went on to claim:
“Surrogacy is possible because there are poor women. Rich people always want the existence of poverty in the society for their own interests. If you badly need to raise a child, adopt a homeless one. Children must inherit your traits – it is just a selfish narcissistic ego.”

She went on to face massive backlash for her tweets. Many called her take on surrogacy “insensitive” and her argument flawed. Some questioned how fathers have the “same feeling for babies” when it is the mother who bears the child. Others stressed on the matter of choice for a woman to do what she will with her body.
why should women go through an immense amount of pain to feel ‘connected’ to their babies ? men dont go through any pain but nobody says that they dont have the same level of attachment for the baby as the mother

Seriously???? Woah.. have a some respect to them. It’s their decision snd their baby. Ofcourse the baby will have the same amount of unconditional love and support just like any other baby. We don’t know what was the reason and it’s none of our business.

A mother is someone who raises a child. Not someone who just gives birth. You are trying to hard to sound relevant. Do you know if Priyanka has any issues conceiving? Maybe surrogacy was their only choice?
Do you think before you tweet to label a child “ readymade” ?
— Tanvinator (@TheTanvinator) January 22, 2022
So basically you are just contradicting your own tweet which earlier has said that people should adopt. Are you trying to imply that a mother can only love the child who was from her own womb and not from someelse’s ( so called readymade according to you)?

How do those FATHERS feel when they get their readymade babies? Do they have the same feelings for the babies like the mothers who give birth to the babies?

This is really offensive and disrespectful. You shouldn’t attack individuals whose situation you know nothing about. If you don’t like the industry or policies/regulations around it, there are better ways to address it then attacking new parents.

Are you trying to imply that adopted children dont receive love from foster parents?. You are trying to say one can only love their own blood? What is your view about people loving their dogs and other pets? They dont give birth to them?

Not a fan of Priyanka chopra but stop judging her bcos she opted for #surrogacy
There might be some fertility issue or anything else.. Thts none of our business. A baby is a baby. Term ‘Readymade’ is a very insensitive term.— Bleib mir fern (@2kuchnahibolna) January 22, 2022
With ur so called Hunan rights’ profession, shame on u to question the choice of the rights of another woman on how she chooses to bring a child into this world to be loved. We live in a scientifically advanced . The womb is just an incubator. The heart is where a baby gets

As a child adopted out of the system as a toddler, I say this with the utmost disrespect: shhhhutthefuckup
Beyond trying to shame people who can’t have children think about all the children you are trying to make question their parents. https://t.co/cNmUiPxbbg

since when does the quality of ‘motherhood’ depend on how much discomfort one has borne? equating one’s tolerance of pain with their worth is a very toxic trait to possess. https://t.co/UkI1SybCWz

As there were many who condemned Taslima Nasreen for taking a dig at Priyanka and Nick, the author later clarified that her tweets weren’t an opinion on the couple’s announcement.
My surrogacy tweets are about my different opinions on surrogacy. Nothing to do with Priyanka-Nick. I love the couple.
— taslima nasreen (@taslimanasreen) January 23, 2022
A man or a woman can be infertile. A woman’s body may not be capable enough to carry a baby. A woman’s age may not allow her to conceive. A woman may not want to carry a child in the first place. A woman might want to become a surrogate and carry a child for someone else. More than anything else, we need to accept the concept of personal choice and consider that things might not go according to plan for many couples.
