Defying all age-related stereotypes, several elderly women in the past have made us proud by realizing their dreams. A 79-year-old granny launched her own inner-wear collection to create awareness of fashion for the oldies.
Now, it’s this 67-year-old doctor-cum-model Gita Prakash who is giving young models a run for their money in the modelling sector.

Today, the General Physician is a successful model who has posed for several designers including Tarun Tahiliani, Gaurav Gupta, Torani, Jaypore among others.
Talking to the Times Of India, the doctor-model shared how modelling happened to her at an age when people lose all hopes to restart a new career.
“I never thought of modelling initially when I was young. I always thought that I don’t have what it takes to be a model and I was happy with my job as a doctor,” she revealed. The doctor added, “And I never knew that I would become a model at age of 57.”
“It so happened that I had an Italian photographer visiting my clinic for his treatment when he asked me if I could model for him. A couple of months later, he wrote to me and asked for my pictures. Since I had never got myself clicked as a model, I sent him my regular photos that my kids selected and shared. And that’s when I got my first break.”

Speaking of her first modelling assignment, Prakash said:
“It was some 10 years ago, I got a chance to be featured in a campaign by designer Tarun Tahiliani. Then ‘Jaypore’ brand approached me to model for their ‘kani shawl’, since those shawls were mostly worn by women of my age group.”

Balancing her job as a doctor and modelling wasn’t a huge task for her.
“Despite giving time to modelling, I have made sure I have never missed out on giving consultations to my patients. I mostly try to book myself for modelling assignments during weekends, since it is then that I am relatively free. As much as I love modelling, I love to serve my people and I also run a charitable clinic at home.”

Her kids were even more excited than her on watching her on billboards and magazines. Talking about their reaction, Prakash divulged:
“They get very excited every time they see me on a billboard or any glossy. They keep sending me the pictures. It makes me happy too and gives me a feeling of contentment.”

The inspiring woman also has a message for all those women who have stopped dreaming because of their age.
“I would like to tell them that they should never stop dreaming no matter how old or young they are. There is no age limit for anything in the world and one shouldn’t let your age decide your passion and hobbies.”

We are so glad Prakash didn’t think of ‘log kya kahenge’ and used her age to her benefit and not as a roadblock. If she can, you can too!
