Despite ruling the TV space, Dholakia has faced troubled times in her professional and personal lives. In a recent interview, the ‘Dekh Bhai Dekh’ actor revealed struggling for money to pay for her kids’ education.
“I was in my late teens. It has actually stuck with me since and it has only taught me not to be dependent. Not that I was dependent, but it taught me to be a little more careful.”
“At that point in time, I was a little hyper, because you are stuck in that position where you don’t know what to do,” Hindustan Times quoted her saying.
For the unversed, Dholakia got married very early in life and gave birth to her twin sons, Kshitij and Sagar (now 26), when she was just 18. And after separating from her husband, she raised them single-handedly.

Revisiting the time when she was desperate to earn money, the actor divulged that back in the day, she filmed a pilot episode to arrange for Rs 3000 to pay for her children’s education. But unfortunately, she was paid just half of the payment since it was the first episode.
“You feel ‘what am I gonna do I don’t have ₹1500 to pay for my child’s education.’ You feel bad, you feel let down, but today when I look back at that time I feel I have done well for myself.”
“Life gives you a lot of obstacles, but you have got to just move on,” said an emotional Dholakia with eyes filled with tears.
